For the final assignment during my 3D modelling class in school we were suppose to pick one of three different options and I chose 'robot'. I wanted to challenge myself by picking something outside of my comfort zone. Were only allowed to model and render in Maya, but since I have a lot of previous experience I could use Substance Painter for texturing. We had three weeks, part time, to complete everything.
Not only was it a difficult to model hard surfaces without doing a high poly and baking all the details down, but also translating the shapes and details from my reference images. And within the time limit.
I'm happy with the final result I achieved within the time limit. These images are not the final images I sent in, but from Marmoset Toolbag. I couldn't make it look correct while using Arnold in Maya for some reason.
The 'robot' is Metal Gear Rex from the game Metal Gear Solid for Playstation by the way. =)
